Accoya Wood
Accoya wood is a high-performance, modified timber created through a proprietary process called acetylation. This process transforms fast-growing, sustainably sourced wood into an ultra-durable, stable, and long-lasting building material. Unlike traditional wood, Accoya delivers exceptional resistance to moisture, rot, and movement, making it one of the most advanced wood products available today. Trusted globally since 2007 and used in over 500,000 projects worldwide, Accoya has become a benchmark for performance and sustainability in modern construction.

What Is Accoya Wood?

How Accoya Wood is Made (Acetylation Process)

The Science Behind Accoya
Accoya wood undergoes a non-toxic acetylation process, where wood fibers are modified at the molecular level. Hydroxyl groups, which attract water, are reduced, while acetyl groups, which repel water, are increased, dramatically minimizing moisture absorption. This transformation results in wood that is highly stable, extremely durable, and resistant to swelling, shrinking, and decay. The process permanently alters the wood without introducing harmful chemicals.
Key Benefits of Accoya Wood

Exceptional Durability
Accoya is engineered to last for decades, even in harsh climates. It comes with a 50-year above-ground warranty, a 25-year in-ground or freshwater warranty, and is resistant to rot, insects, and decay. This makes it a long-term investment with minimal lifecycle costs.
Unmatched Dimensional Stability
Accoya wood exhibits 3–4 times less swelling and shrinkage than traditional wood. Benefits include straight boards before and after installation, minimal movement over time, and reduced risk of warping, cupping, or twisting. Ideal for applications where precision matters.
Low Maintenance
Accoya requires significantly less upkeep than other wood products. Coatings last longer, fewer repairs are needed, and it can be left unfinished to naturally weather to a silver-grey. This reduces long-term maintenance costs and effort.
Sustainability & Environmental Performance
Accoya is one of the most sustainable building materials available. It is FSC® certified timber, Cradle to Cradle Gold certified™, non-toxic and fully recyclable, and offers a low lifetime carbon footprint.
Design Flexibility
Accoya offers exceptional versatility, including wide boards and custom profiles, compatibility with paints, stains, and coatings, and support for textured finishes such as brushed, resawn, and smooth. Perfect for both modern and traditional architecture.
Applications of Accoya Wood

Accoya is suitable for a wide range of residential and commercial applications.
Siding & Cladding
Highly stable for long-lasting finishes, available in multiple profiles including T&G, Shiplap, and 3D, and ideal for modern and high-end architectural designs.
Decking
Resistant to cracking and distortion, comfortable underfoot and barefoot-friendly, and requires minimal maintenance. Accoya decking performs exceptionally well in harsh climates.
Trim & Exterior Details
Ideal for detailed millwork and maintains shape and integrity over time.
Landscaping & Specialty Projects
Used for bridges, sculptures, and outdoor structures, with high performance in ground-contact applications. Accoya is used in landmark architectural projects worldwide.
Accoya Color Options

Accoya is available in a natural wood finish and Accoya Color Grey. Both options can be stained or painted, can be brushed or textured, and will naturally weather over time if left untreated. Accoya Color Grey is colored through the core, ensuring long-lasting aesthetic consistency.
Why Choose Accoya Wood?

Wood Without Compromise
Accoya combines the beauty of natural wood, the performance of advanced materials, and the sustainability of renewable resources. It outperforms many hardwoods, and even synthetic materials like PVC and aluminum, in key areas such as durability and stability.
